Why Didn't My Recipe Import Correctly?

Last updated May 5, 2026

Smart Import is built to grab your recipes in seconds, but every now and then it gets stuck. No worries, here's a quick rundown of how it works, and what to try if it's not playing nice.

How Smart Import Works

💬 Smart Import works best when the recipe is written in the video caption, that's the easiest place for us to pull the details from.

🎤 If there's no caption, we'll try pulling the recipe from the video's audio.

🌐 Still no luck? We'll go hunting for the original recipe on a website and import it from there.

📷 You can also snap a screenshot of a recipe and upload it directly to ReciMe.

Common Reasons an Import Might Not Work

The recipe isn't publicly available

ReciMe can only see what's public, so we can't pull recipes from private social media accounts, sites that need a login or subscription, or anything else that's locked down.

What to try instead: Take a screenshot of the recipe and import it as an image, that usually does the trick!

The steps are in the comments, not the caption

Smart Import only reads the caption, so if the steps (or ingredients) are tucked into the comments, pinned or not, we won't be able to grab them.

What to try instead: Take a screenshot of the caption and the comment together, then import that as an image.

The post contains more than one recipe

If a post includes a few recipes (like a meal prep video with three different dinners), Smart Import will only grab one at a time.

What to try instead: Import each recipe separately as a screenshot or text import, or add the extras manually.
